Hanoverdale Church
A Church of the Brethren

About Us...

Hanoverdale Church was born as a movement of faith in 1860.  This church is one that stresses discipleship and victorious living through prayer, praise, worship, teaching, and service.

We are an evangelical church that seeks to honor God by taking seriously His Word as our rule for both faith and practice; by lifting up Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord and the Way to the Father; and by sharing the filling of the Holy Spirit, His indwelling presence and power for living.  Hanoverdale Church is comprised of those who have been called of God by faith in Jesus Christ to become His children that we “should be to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1:12).  It is our desire to reflect the character of Christ in all things that we say and do as we serve Him as King and Lord of our lives.  We recognize the worth and gifts of all believers who share in His ministry and the growth of His church.

DENOMINATION

We are a Church of the Brethren with international headquarters in Elgin, Illinois.  One of America’s oldest denominations, early Brethren had roots in Pietism and Anabaptism.  Beginning in 1708 in Germany, the church soon migrated to America, settling in Germantown, Pennsylvania.

We are a Protestant denomination.  We hold the New Testament as our only creed and rule of faith and conduct.  The Bible is our only authority.

We practice believer's baptism by triple immersion, the Love Feast and Communion with the service of feetwashing, the laying on of hands, and the service of anointing for the sick.

We support mission work in India, Africa, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and provide opportunities for the service to in the U.S. and numerous other countries.

We view ourselves as partners with all who serve Jesus Christ as Lord.

The Church of the Brethren churches include every race, nationality, and ethnic group.

Affiliation with the Church of the Brethren allows us to identify with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible in word and action.
